WHAT ARE LITTLE ROTTERS?

The Little Rotters Project was led by Groundwork Leicester and Leicestershire. The website and a handbook have been put together using the wealth of information and experience gained through working with primary schools in Leicestershire. During this time a number of approaches were trialed, involving pupils and teachers in setting up sustainable ‘Little Rotters Composting Clubs’. A broad cross-section of schools was selected aiming to be representative of schools nationwide.

Child-led "Little Rotters Club" were set up in each school worked with and the project delivered educational sessions to the whole-school. As well as working in schools, the project reached out into the surrounding communities to promote home composting, provide advice and ultimately reduce the tonnage of waste going to landfill.

Groundwork's vision is of a society made up of sustainable communities which respect the local and global environment, which are vibrant, health and safe, and where individuals and enterprise prosper.
