Creepy crawlies of the compost bin

WORMS feed on microbes and organic material. They have long segmented bodies and rely on muscle action for movement because they have no legs or wings.
FRUIT FLIES feed on the decomposing fruit. They are 'true flies', with six legs and one pair of wings.
CENTIPEDES are predators. They can move very quickly and use this speed to catch smaller creatures
SLUGS eat green waste. They have a really rough tongue on the underside of their body. As they slither, they lick up the food as they go along. Their eyes are on the long stalks at the head end. The shorter stalks pointing downwards are used for tasting food before they start to use their tongue. The hole on the side is a breathing hole.
MICROBES are really small organisms. They are smaller than this dot . and you can't see them with your eyes. Bacteria are one type of microbe. In the compost bin, there are millions of mircobes all breaking down the waste you put in there, to help make compost.
